There is a stretch of August when Minneapolis becomes the best sports town in America — and it happens to land just steps from our garden gate. From August 10–19, the Minnesota Twins settle in for a big homestand at Target Field against the Orioles, Phillies, and Braves. Then, on Saturday, August 22, football returns as the Vikings host the Baltimore Ravens in their preseason home opener at U.S. Bank Stadium. Two stadiums, two weeks of games, and one gloriously un-hotel-like place to stay: 300 Clifton, the historic Carpenter Mansion in Loring Park, minutes from both ballparks.
Nine Days of Baseball: The Twins’ August Homestand (August 10–19)
The Twins’ August schedule brings three different opponents to Target Field in ten days — including two National League contenders whose fans travel famously well. Times below are Central and, as always, subject to change, so double-check before you go.
Baltimore Orioles — Monday–Wednesday, August 10–12
The homestand opens with three against Baltimore: 6:40 pm games Monday and Tuesday, and a 12:40 pm getaway-day matinee Wednesday — perfect for pairing an afternoon at the ballpark with an evening soak in our garden hot tub.
Philadelphia Phillies — Saturday–Sunday, August 15–16
This series comes with a twist of movie magic. The Twins and Phillies actually open their set on Thursday, August 13 at the MLB at Field of Dreams game in Dyersville, Iowa — streamed globally on Netflix — then take Friday off and resume at Target Field with a 6:10 pm game Saturday and a 1:10 pm Sunday finale. Watch the cornfield game from our haunted video lounge Thursday night, then see the same two teams in person that weekend.
Atlanta Braves — Monday–Wednesday, August 17–19
The Braves close out the homestand with 6:40 pm games Monday and Tuesday and another 12:40 pm Wednesday matinee. Midweek baseball is one of summer’s best-kept secrets — smaller crowds, easier tickets, and a quiet mansion to come home to.

Football Is Back: Vikings vs. Ravens at U.S. Bank Stadium (Saturday, August 22)
Three days after the Braves leave town, the purple returns. The Vikings host the Baltimore Ravens in their only preseason home game, Saturday, August 22 at 12:00 pm, with doors at 10:00 am. It’s the first chance of the year to see the team under the great dark sails of U.S. Bank Stadium, and preseason tickets are the most affordable way all year to get inside. Two quick tips from experienced guests: the stadium enforces a clear-bag policy, and it’s fully cashless — bring a card or your phone.
Trade the Chain Hotel for a Mansion
Game-day crowds book up the skyway hotels fast. A few blocks southwest, on a quiet street beside Loring Park, 300 Clifton offers something entirely different: the finest Georgian mansion in Minnesota, on the National Register of Historic Places, with hand-painted murals, carved fireplaces, and English gardens where the city noise simply doesn’t follow. Our location puts you about ten minutes from Target Field and U.S. Bank Stadium alike.
Come home from the ninth inning to the four-season hot tub under the stars, or carry the night into Gertrude’s Cistern, our speakeasy and haunted video lounge with heated reclining seats — made for replaying the highlights with a nightcap. Rooms range from the sun-drenched Grand Edwardian to the sparkling Crystal Mansion and the rustic Blacksmith’s Forge — and traveling groups of fans can ask about our specials and packages.

Make It a Full Minneapolis Weekend
That same mid-August stretch is bursting with more than sports. Ed Sheeran plays U.S. Bank Stadium on August 15 — the same night as the Phillies game — and we’ve written a full guide to where to stay for the LOOP Tour. J. Cole hits Target Center on August 18, one of six shows in our Target Center summer concert roundup, and the Minnesota Fringe Festival runs August 6–16. Between games, hop aboard Minneapolis Trolley Tours to see the city the charming way, browse more ideas on their things to do in Minneapolis guide, toast your team’s win at the historic Pillsbury Club, or — if your crew is staying the whole homestand — consider a furnished studio at our sister property, Oakland’s on 9th.
Book Your August Sports Escape
Nine days of big-league baseball, the return of Vikings football, and a mansion with a hot tub waiting between innings. August 10–22 books quickly when the Phillies and Braves come to town — reserve your room at 300 Clifton now and turn a game into a getaway.
