Twin Cities Marathon, Vikings, and Doja Cat All on October 4, 2026: Where to Stay in Downtown Minneapolis

Some Sundays downtown are slow. Sunday, October 4, 2026 will not be one of them. Three major events land in downtown Minneapolis within a few hours and a few blocks of each other: the closing day of Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend, a Vikings home game at U.S. Bank Stadium, and Doja Cat at Target Center. If you want a bed in this city that night, book it well before the calendar catches up with you.

What is happening in Minneapolis on October 4, 2026?

Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend

Marathon Weekend runs October 2–4, 2026. Saturday, October 3 carries the 5K, 10K and family races. Sunday, October 4 is the big one, with the 10 Mile, Half Marathon and Marathon all going off that morning, according to Twin Cities In Motion, the nonprofit that runs the weekend.

One useful note if you are already thinking about next year: Twin Cities In Motion has announced that beginning in 2027 the weekend moves from early October to a mid-October window of October 10–17, to improve the odds of good race-day weather. 2026 is the last year on the traditional early-October date. We covered the weekend in more detail in our guide to where to stay for Twin Cities Marathon weekend.

Vikings vs. Miami Dolphins, 3:05 p.m.

The Vikings host the Miami Dolphins at U.S. Bank Stadium in Week 4, kickoff 3:05 p.m. CDT on Sunday, October 4, on FOX, per the official Vikings schedule. One caveat worth knowing before you book a flight around it: the NFL notes that certain games are subject to flexible scheduling, so a date or kickoff time can still move from what the schedule shows today. Check back closer to game week. If you are coming earlier in the season, our September 13 home opener guide covers that weekend.

Doja Cat at Target Center, 7:30 p.m.

The same evening, Doja Cat brings the Ma Vie World Tour to Target Center, with the show starting at 7:30 p.m. Target Center sits at 600 First Avenue North, about a mile from our front door. Target Center has a busy autumn generally — we also wrote up Kacey Musgraves on September 22, another strong midweek night to build a stay around.

Why one Sunday makes rooms disappear

Downtown Minneapolis absorbs big crowds gracefully most of the time. What it handles less gracefully is three crowds arriving on top of one another. Marathon runners and their families book months in advance and often stay two or three nights. An NFL home game brings tens of thousands of people into the same few blocks by early afternoon. An arena show adds thousands more in the evening, many of them looking for a room rather than a long drive home.

The practical consequence is simple. Rooms in and around downtown for the nights of Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4 will tighten earlier than the calendar suggests they should, and the last rooms to go are rarely the nicest ones. If October 4 is on your itinerary for any of the three reasons above, treat early October as a sold-out weekend and act accordingly.

Where to stay: a Georgian mansion in Loring Park

300 Clifton is the historic Eugene J. Carpenter Mansion, a National Register property in Loring Park and some of the finest Georgian architecture in Minnesota. It is a genuine bed and breakfast rather than a hotel tower, which on a weekend like this one is the point: you get a quiet, characterful house a short ride from all three venues instead of a corridor full of everyone else who came for the same thing.

Rooms range from the Crystal Mansion Room and the Grand Edwardian to the more relaxed Estate Rooms. The four-season garden hot tub is open year round and is, we would argue, the single best amenity in Minneapolis to have access to on the evening of a marathon. See our specials and packages for current offers, and the location page for how the mansion sits relative to downtown.

Guests also receive vouchers: a $20 dining voucher per stay for the historic Pillsbury Club, and a $20 voucher per stay toward a ride on the Minneapolis Trolley.

Getting around that day

Expect street closures around the race route on Sunday morning and heavy foot traffic near U.S. Bank Stadium in the afternoon. Plan on transit or walking rather than moving a car around downtown between noon and evening. The Metro Transit trip planner is the reliable way to check routes and times close to the day, once race-day closures are published.

Book October 4 early

One Sunday, a marathon, a Vikings home game and an arena show. It is the busiest single day on the downtown calendar this fall, and it is the kind of date that quietly sells out eight weeks ahead. Check availability at 300 Clifton and give yourself somewhere lovely to come back to.
