Every fall has one weekend when downtown Minneapolis simply fills up. In 2026 it is Friday, October 23 through Sunday, October 25. Zac Brown Band plays Target Center on Friday night. The Gophers host Iowa on Saturday while Ben Folds sits in with the Minnesota Orchestra a few blocks away. Then Sunday delivers the double-header: the Vikings kick off against the Colts at noon at U.S. Bank Stadium, and the Timberwolves play their first home game of the season at 6 p.m. at Target Center. Four big crowds, three days, one downtown — and a limited number of beds within walking distance of any of it.
Here is the weekend, date by date, verified on the venues’ own calendars, and why a National Register mansion on the edge of Loring Park is the calmest place to sleep through it.
Friday, October 23: Zac Brown Band at Target Center
Target Center lists Zac Brown Band with special guest Brothers Osborne for Friday, October 23, with a 7 p.m. event start. It is the opening act of the weekend, and it is the night the hotels around First Avenue North start selling out first. We wrote up the show itself, including how to get to the arena from Loring Park, in our Zac Brown Band guide.
If country is not your night, the Minnesota Orchestra plays Haydn and Liszt at Orchestra Hall the same evening at 8 p.m. Orchestra Hall is on Nicollet Mall, under a mile from our front door.
Saturday, October 24: Gophers vs. Iowa, and Ben Folds with the Orchestra
Saturday belongs to the rivalry. The 2026 Gopher football schedule puts Iowa at Huntington Bank Stadium on Saturday, October 24, with kickoff still to be announced — the University lists it as somewhere between 2 and 7 p.m. That is the game the whole state circles, and the campus side of the river will be maroon and gold from breakfast onward. From Loring Park, the stadium is across the Mississippi in Stadium Village; check Metro Transit’s trip planner for the day, or let a cab take you over the river and leave the parking to someone else.
Saturday night is quieter and lovelier: Ben Folds with the Minnesota Orchestra, Orchestra Hall, 7 p.m. If you are coming for the game and staying the weekend, it is the best possible second act — a walk down Nicollet Mall, a concert in one of the finest halls in the country, and a walk back up the hill to a hot tub. Our Orchestra Hall guide covers the rest of the fall season.

Sunday, October 25: Vikings at noon, Timberwolves at six
This is the day that makes the weekend. The Vikings schedule has the Indianapolis Colts at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday, October 25, kickoff at 12:00 p.m. on CBS, coming off the team’s bye week. About the time the fourth quarter ends, the doors open across downtown for the Timberwolves’ first home game of 2026–27 — Toronto at Target Center, 6 p.m., per the Target Center calendar. We covered the Wolves season, and the walk from our door to the arena, in our Timberwolves guide.
Two sold-out buildings on one Sunday means two things for a visitor: the downtown ramps and rideshare queues will be at their worst between 3 and 6 p.m., and the smart move is to stay somewhere you can walk from, then walk back to. Loring Park is that place. Target Center is roughly a mile north of us on foot; U.S. Bank Stadium is a short cab or rideshare east. If you are doing both games, you can come home between them, sit in the garden with a coffee, and go back out.
Why a mansion beats a downtown hotel on a weekend like this
300 Clifton is the Eugene J. Carpenter Mansion, built in 1906 and listed on the National Register, sitting on a quiet street above Loring Park. On the busiest weekend of the fall, that quiet is the whole point. Eight distinct room types are spread across the main house and the carriage house — the Georgian Room and the Crystal Mansion Room for a splurge, the Estate Rooms for a group of friends splitting the weekend (they are our only rooms with a shared bath, and the best value in the house). Every room has air conditioning, and the whole place is yours to wander after the game.
The two things guests talk about most are the four-season garden hot tub, which is exactly what a cold late-October Sunday night calls for after four hours in stadium seats, and Gertrude’s Cistern, the speakeasy and haunted movie lounge under the house, with heated reclining seats for whichever game you did not go to. It is also spooky season: the Candlelight Ghost Tour departs from the Pillsbury Club a short ride away, and our Hauntings page explains why guests keep asking about the ballroom.

The practical details
Check-in is 3:00 p.m. and check-out is 10:00 a.m.; an early check-in or late check-out can be added for $25 each when it is available, which matters on a Sunday with a noon kickoff. Breakfast is not served on site, but complimentary coffee is waiting in the common area every morning. Full answers are on our FAQ page.
Book directly with us and you also receive a $20 Pillsbury Club dining voucher and a $20 Minneapolis Trolley voucher per stay — details and conditions are on our vouchers page. The Pillsbury Club is the right place for dinner between the game and the concert; the trolley voucher covers a good chunk of a ghost tour.
Book the weekend now, not in October
Four marquee events in three days is the kind of weekend that empties the city’s rooms weeks ahead, and we have far fewer of them than a hotel tower does. We wrote about how far ahead to book for exactly this reason. If October 23–25 is your weekend, check availability and reserve your room today, and let the rest of downtown fight over the parking ramps.
