Yes, there is, and it is under a Georgian mansion in Loring Park. At 300 Clifton, the basement hides Gertrude’s Cistern, a private movie room and speakeasy-style lounge where heated leather recliners face a big flat-screen and nobody else is invited. If you have ever wished a Minneapolis hotel stay came with its own screening room, this is the one that does.

What is the movie room at 300 Clifton?
The Movie Room & Haunted Lounge sits in a cavern-like space below the house. The hotel describes the seating as stadium-style leather chairs that fully recline, with three customizable massage settings and built-in heat. The armrests lift up, which makes the whole row an excellent place to cuddle. The movie plays on a huge flat-screen TV, and the room is completely soundproof, so a late-night horror film will not bother the guests upstairs and the guests upstairs will not bother you.
Next to the screening room is a private lounge. According to the 300 Clifton page, you can mix a drink, get ice, make a pizza and make movie popcorn there, all without leaving the building. Pick the film, dim the lights and settle in.
How does the Private Movie Night add-on work?
The movie room is an add-on to a room reservation rather than a stand-alone booking. On the specials and packages page, the Private Movie Night is listed at $99 and described as a private film night in Gertrude’s Cistern with heated reclining seats, your movie, popcorn and drinks. You add it to your stay when you book, so the room is waiting when you arrive.
Two practical notes. First, 300 Clifton does not publish a set of movie titles to choose from, so plan on bringing the film you want to watch in mind and ask the team when you book. Second, check the specials page for the current price before you reserve, since add-ons are listed there and can change.

Why is the lounge called “haunted”?
300 Clifton leans into its reputation. The Haunted Hotel in Minneapolis page describes the movie room as part of the haunted overnight experience, and the lounge is dressed for it, with candelabras, dark paneling and a velvet chaise glowing purple. Treat it as atmosphere, not a guarantee: whether anything follows you down the stairs is between you and the mansion. If you want a ghost story first, the Candlelight Ghost Tour leaves from the Pillsbury Club, and the hotel’s haunted page explains how to pair the tour with a night here.
When is a private movie room worth booking?
A few nights where it really shines:
- Date night. Reclining seats with lift-up armrests, a private lounge and no strangers. Pair it with the garden hot tub for a full evening in. We covered that side in our guide to the four-season hot tub.
- Birthday weekends. A private screening is an easy way to make a milestone feel special. See our birthday weekend guide.
- Rainy or very cold nights. When it is miserable outside, a heated seat in a soundproof basement is hard to beat.
- Friends or family groups. The room is built for a few people, so book it for a movie night with the people you came with.
Prefer a big screen out on the town?
If you would rather see a film in a theater, Minneapolis has good options. Trylon Cinema in Longfellow is an independent microcinema that runs curated series of classics, international films and horror retrospectives. MSP Film runs The Main Cinema and festivals such as MSPIFF. When you are done, Loring Park, a 33.94-acre park with a lake and gardens, is a short walk from the mansion.

A direct-booking perk
If you book directly with 300 Clifton, the vouchers page lists a $20 dining voucher for the Pillsbury Club and a $20 voucher for Minneapolis Trolley Tours per stay, redeemable during your stay. Need a longer, quieter base later? Oakland’s on 9th offers furnished month-to-month studios downtown.
Ready for movie night? Add the Private Movie Night to your stay at 300 Clifton and let the mansion do the rest.
