That’s the Dakota, the legendary dinner-and-show listening room at 1010 Nicollet Mall, and its August 2026 calendar is one of the most romantic lineups downtown has seen in years. Why the Dakota is Minneapolis’s most romantic night out
The Dakota isn’t a concert hall where you park, queue, and squint. It’s a supper club: doors and dining open at 5:30 pm, you settle in at a table with dinner and cocktails, and the music happens a few feet away. It sits right on Nicollet Mall — about a 20-minute stroll from our front door, straight through the greenery of Loring Park and up the Mall, with valet parking if you’d rather ride.

Wednesday, August 5 — Soul Asylum (Acoustic) with Ivan Neville & Laurels String Quartet, 7 pm. Minneapolis rock royalty — the Grammy-winning band behind “Runaway Train” — stripped down and rearranged with strings in an intimate room. A hometown bucket-list night.
Thursday, August 6 — Jane Monheit Sings Cole Porter, 7 pm. One of jazz’s most celebrated voices performing “Night and Day” and the Great American Songbook. Porter’s tunes were new when our mansion’s rooms were young — this one pairs almost suspiciously well with a night in the Crystal Mansion room.
Friday, August 7 — Talib Kweli, 7 & 9:30 pm. The Brooklyn hip-hop legend, up close. Monday, August 10 — Django Festival Allstars, 7 pm, gypsy-jazz romance at its finest. Tuesday, August 11 — Stanley Clarke N•4EVER, 7 & 9:30 pm, one of the greatest living jazz bassists. Friday, August 14 — Davina and The Vagabonds, 7 pm, a Twin Cities favorite. Wednesday, August 19 — Spyro Gyra, 7 & 9 pm. August 25–26 — Jim Messina of Loggins & Messina, two nights running.
Thursday–Saturday, August 27–29 — Musiq Soulchild, 6:30 & 9 pm nightly. Six chances across three nights to hear the neo-soul hitmaker — and since that’s opening weekend of the State Fair, downtown rooms will be in demand. Book early.
Then come home to a mansion
Here’s how the evening goes. Dinner and a show at the Dakota. A slow walk back along Loring Park as the skyline lights up. Then a soak in our four-season garden hot tub under the stars — and if you’re not ready for the night to end, a nightcap downstairs in Gertrude’s Cistern, our speakeasy and haunted video lounge with heated reclining seats. In the morning: hand-painted murals, carved fireplaces, and English gardens at the Eugene J. Carpenter Mansion, the finest Georgian architecture in Minnesota and a proud listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
