There’s a particular kind of magic to a Minneapolis summer evening — long golden light, a warm breeze off the lakes, the whole city humming with festivals. Now imagine ending that evening soaking in a hot tub under the stars in a secret garden, tucked behind a 19th-century mansion in the heart of downtown. That’s a June weekend at 300 Clifton, and it might just be the most romantic thing to do in Minneapolis right now.
Hot tub nights under the stars

Tucked into a hidden corner of the estate, our four-season garden hot tub is the heart of a 300 Clifton stay. Summer makes it even better: settle in after a day exploring the city, let the jets work out the miles, and watch the stars come out over Loring Park. And if you’re feeling adventurous, head downstairs to Gertrude’s Cistern — our one-of-a-kind speakeasy and haunted video lounge, complete with heated reclining seats. Romance and a little playful mystery, all under one historic roof.
A mansion that feels like a world away

300 Clifton is the historic Eugene J. Carpenter Mansion — on the National Register of Historic Places and widely considered the finest example of Georgian architecture in Minnesota. Every guest room has its own character, from the four-poster Grand Edwardian to the airy Crystal Mansion Room, and the common spaces — hand-painted murals, carved fireplaces, the breathtaking Drawing Room — make it feel like you’ve slipped into another era. Book direct and breakfast is on us: a daily voucher to the beloved neighborhood Nicollet Diner.

Steps from the best of summer in the city
Because we’re right in Loring Park, the whole city is at your doorstep. June is peak festival season: the Stone Arch Bridge Festival (June 20–21) fills the riverfront with art and music, and Twin Cities Pride takes over Loring Park itself the last weekend of the month. Stroll to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden to see the Spoonbridge and Cherry, or wander the paths of Loring Park just outside our door. For the full slate of what’s on, Meet Minneapolis keeps a running list.
Make it a full Minneapolis experience
To really make the most of your stay, climb aboard a vintage trolley. Minneapolis Trolley Tours runs scenic rides and after-dark Candlelight Ghost Tours — book early, because they sell out on weekends. Love the haunted-mansion side of things? Tour the Pillsbury Club, a century-old mansion with a speakeasy bar and a private theater. Traveling with a group, or staying a while longer? Oakland’s on 9th has furnished downtown studios just a few blocks away.
Plan your romantic June getaway
A hot tub under the stars, a historic mansion all to yourselves, and the best of a Minneapolis summer just outside — that’s the thing to do this June. Book your stay at 300 Clifton and let the city’s most charming hideaway be your home base.
