Labor Day weekend is summer’s grand finale in Minneapolis — and in 2026 it lands with a flourish. The Minnesota State Fair saves its biggest nights for September 4–7, the Minnesota Renaissance Festival throws open its castle gates on the holiday itself, and downtown’s stages are humming. The only thing missing is somewhere unforgettable to sleep. That’s where we come in: 300 Clifton, the historic Eugene J. The State Fair’s grand finale: four last days of the Get-Together
The Great Minnesota Get-Together runs August 27 through Labor Day, September 7 — which makes this holiday weekend its final, fullest stretch. The Grandstand lineup closes strong: country hitmaker HARDY on Friday, September 4 at 7 p.m.; TLC and Salt-N-Pepa with En Vogue — the “IT’S ICONIC” tour — on Saturday, September 5 at 7 p.m.; the free Amateur Talent Contest Finals on Sunday, September 6 at 7:30 p.m.; and gospel great CeCe Winans on Labor Day Monday at 3 p.m. Add the nightly fireworks spectacular and twelve days of fun ending Labor Day, as the fair itself puts it, and you have every reason to stay through Monday.

Huzzah on the holiday: the Renaissance Festival’s Labor Day Monday
Prefer your long weekend with jousting? The Minnesota Renaissance Festival — celebrating 55 years of huzzah and cheers in Shakopee — runs weekends August 22 through October 4, and Labor Day Monday, September 7 is one of only two bonus weekdays all season. The village opens 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., rain or shine, with 16 stages, 250+ artisans, and 500+ food and drink selections fit for royalty. It’s an easy day trip from the mansion, and let’s be honest: after a day among kings and queens, returning to Minnesota’s finest Georgian mansion simply keeps you in character. A jazz-club nightcap downtown
If your idea of a holiday is candlelight and a supper club, the Dakota on Nicollet Mall has the weekend covered: acclaimed jazz vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant sings two shows on Friday, September 4, and the Shabby Road Orchestra takes the stage Saturday, September 5. Then come home to the mansion
Here’s the part of the weekend nobody else can offer. Back at 300 Clifton, September evenings are made for the four-season hot tub in the secret garden — jets rumbling, string lights glowing, the downtown skyline just beyond the hedges. Night owls can slip downstairs to Gertrude’s Cistern, our speakeasy and haunted video lounge with heated reclining seats, for one more pour before bed. Come morning, wander the English gardens with coffee in hand before the day’s adventures begin.
Every room in the Carpenter Mansion has its own story: the Crystal Mansion with its chandelier suspended over the bed, the stately Grand Edwardian, the Estate rooms, and the Blacksmith’s Forge, hidden behind a secret door with a private garden all its own. Hand-painted murals, carved fireplaces, and a National Register pedigree come standard.
Make a full weekend of it
Between events, stroll Loring Park right outside the door, or see the city the charming way aboard Minneapolis Trolley Tours — their things-to-do guides are a goldmine for first-timers. History lovers should peek at the Pillsbury Club, and if you’re bringing friends who need their own space downtown, Oakland’s on 9th has furnished studios a short hop away.
